What is the shelf life of Tandem Magnetic Beads?
Most of our magnetic beads have a shelf life of 2 years when stored at 2-8°C. Do not freeze the beads as this can damage their structure.
Can I use these beads for automated workstations?
Yes, Tandem particles are designed with zero sedimentation technology, making them ideal for high-throughput automation platforms like KingFisher™, Hamilton, and Tecan.
How do I prevent bead clumping?
Ensure proper vortexing before use. If clumping occurs, sonication for 10-15 seconds can help disperse the beads. Always store in the recommended buffer.
Are Tandem beads compatible with common lysis buffers?
Yes, our beads are compatible with most standard lysis buffers containing detergents such as Triton X-100, Tween-20, and NP-40. However, avoid strong oxidizing agents.
Can I autoclave the magnetic beads?
No, we do not recommend autoclaving as high temperatures can damage the surface functional groups. Instead, use filter-sterilized buffers and work in a sterile hood.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Low Yield | Insufficient bead mixing | Vortex beads thoroughly before adding sample. |
| Low Purity (A260/280) | Incomplete washing | Increase wash steps or wash volume. Ensure all ethanol is removed. |
| Bead Carryover | Strong magnet not used | Use a stronger magnetic separator and increase separation time. |
| Slow Separation | High sample viscosity | Dilute the sample with binding buffer or increase the separation time on the magnet. |
| Non-specific Binding | Insufficient blocking | Add blocking agents (e.g., BSA) to the buffer or increase the salt concentration during washing. |
